Starship Troopers: Invasion (2012) [Blu-ray]
Animation | Action | Sci-Fi

The troopers of two starships have joined forces to terminate a massive bug attack at a federation outpost. Before the mission can be completed and the survivors evacuated, one ship abruptly departs and goes inexplicably dark. The remaining battle-hardened troopers race to the rescue, only to discover that the threat from the bugs is about to hit home. With the latest in CGI technology, this film from executive Producer Casper Van Dien and Director Shinji Aramaki (Appleseed) features the return of fan favorite characters Johnny Rico, Captain Ibanez and Carl Jenkins.

Some good crazy action however a bit heavy on drama that didn't really work for me. Decent enough story and faithful to the original. A little overboard with the nudity, but hey. i like boobs as much as the next guy. Worth a rental for sure. Some effects and graphics worked really well at times, sometimes not so much. The bug animations were kinda stiff while the texture work was really good on the faces and "ahem" skin. You can tell which scenes they spent time polishing. By far much better then Starship Troopers 2 or 3. My only real complaint is that the story itself felt kinda rushed and didn't really have any nuance. It was a good story and some of the time I felt was wasted on things that were not needed at the cost of fleshing out the premise of the movie. Just my 2 cents.

Summary: nice little cgi movie.

The thing is that Starship Troopers was never meant for anything like that; the setting is a sci-fi universe with much more gore, trash and nudity than would be expected. This movie is meant for the old Starship Troopers fans, those who know the movie (the first for god's sake) and the Roughnecks animated series; it isn't a good introduction to the setting but it wasn't meant to be. Overall I would give it an 8/10 because I was expecting a respectable follow-up to to the series that was graphically polished, sensible towards character development and not very predictable from a storyline point of view and as far as these basic requirements are concerned, it doesn't disappoint. Overall, if you liked the source material, and you know the setting this is a nice follow up and much better than the god-awful movie sequels. Despite my individual rating of 8/10, I gave the movie a rating of 10/10 if only to balance out the people who I assume weren't all that familiar with the setting and under voted a movie which, from an objective point of view, cannot possible receive less than a 6/10.

Summary: A lot better than expected.

They took all the elements of the first movie, and made it a very good animated feature ! Hope this will reboot the franchise in a good way (forgetting the sequels and the bad animated series).

But it is like entering in a big video game demo with non-stop action scenes.

Very entertaining, popcorn in a bucket, and sit tight to watch it with friends. NOTE: not really for kids, because there are some nudity, violence and gore scenes.

Summary: Fun to watch.

[CSW] -2.2- The graphics are realistic enough -- the faces are almost human -- but the characters have little personality and the action is repetitive and dull. The real story here is that the Queen bug is sentient and can fly the Starship. But did they didn't focus on that part of the plot line instead it was just a shoot-um-up bug killer and we've all seen the Troopers kill bugs before which made this movie very hollow and superficial.
